Christian Anderson Named USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week
National Respect: Christian Anderson Earns USBWA National Honors
The national spotlight is shining bright on Lubbock.
Following a week that saw Texas Tech climb to No. 15 in the AP Top 25 and secure a massive signature win over then-No. 3 Duke, sophomore guard Christian Anderson has been named one of five USBWA Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week.
This prestigious honor, awarded by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, places Anderson among the elite of college basketball after his heroics at Madison Square Garden.
A Week to Remember
Anderson didn’t just play well; he took over when the lights were brightest. In the Red Raiders' 82-81 comeback victory over Duke, Anderson played all 40 minutes, spearheading a 17-point rally.
Duke Performance: 27 points (23 in the second half), 5 assists, and 3 steals.
The Clutch Factor: Anderson knocked down the game-winning free throw in the final seconds to seal the upset.
Weekly Average: 20.5 points, 5.5 assists, and 2.5 steals per game across two wins.
Cementing His Status
This national recognition comes on the heels of a busy awards Monday, where Anderson was also named the Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season. Currently ranking fourth nationally with 7.3 assists per game, Anderson has evolved from a Big 12 All-Freshman selection into one of the most dangerous floor generals in the country.
Anderson is joined on the USBWA national list this week by Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Tennessee), Braden Huff (Gonzaga), Paul McNeil (NC State), and Stephon Payne (Seton Hall).
What’s Next?
The Red Raiders will look to keep the momentum rolling as they close out non-conference play at home against Winthrop this Sunday, December 28. With Anderson playing at an All-American level, the "Dustin R. Womble" era is officially in high gear.
